Choose YOU

What does it mean to choose ourselves?

I don’t know about you, but I have spent so much of my life waiting to be chosen. Chosen for the team, chosen by teachers, chosen romantically, professionally, even spiritually. Oh, the feeling when someone actually sees you and chooses you feels so validating, so rewarding.

Many inspirational leaders have talked about our innate need to “belong”. We all want to feel like we fit somewhere, like we are a part of something and that we have something to contribute. We all want to be acknowledged and validated.

Let’s face it, we all have the need to feel CHOSEN!

But what happens when this need overrides our willingness to be authentic, truthful and real? When we package ourselves to fit in, to be seen a certain way, to stand out, to be chosen, we are sending ourselves the message that who we really ARE… isn’t enough.

The truth is, until we can show up and be uniquely and unapologetically ourselves, we will never feel like we belong. As long as we feel that we can only allow a part of ourselves to be seen, we will never feel fully seen. AND until we learn how to choose ourselves first, we will never feel chosen!

So, what does it mean to choose ourselves?

Choosing YOU means knowing that what you bring to the table is valuable, and that every part of you is worthy of love and belonging - just as you are! It means that you trust yourself, believe in yourself, champion yourself.

True belonging can only occur when we allow ourselves to be seen for the truth of who we are - all of our greatness AND all of our wounded humanness. Until we can allow that, we aren’t choosing ourselves. We’re only choosing some version of ourselves that we deem acceptable.

When you choose you, you stop needing outside validation and approval. When you choose YOU, you get to be the chooseER! You get to be the one that decides, the one in the driver's seat, the one who calls the shots.

So, if you’re still waiting to be chosen… Ask yourself if YOU are choosing YOU? Are you picking YOU first?

And if not… Take one small action today to start to change that. How can you treat yourself like you are the most important person in your story?

Isn’t it time to choose YOU?
